Aztec was started in 1993 by Richard monk the current owner. Richard has a long history in the Amusement machine industry being previously employed for many years at Stretton Leisure, A machine operating division of Greenall’s. Within his time at Streeton he gained experience in many different departments including stores, administration, accounts, transport and logistics, workshop and eventually machine sales.
The company was taken over by Leisurelink and redundancies were made. Richard decided it was the right time to start a business with the experience gained thus far and so RJM coin-op was born (Richards initials!) With a tiny amount of redundancy money Richard took a lock up garage and started to trade.. The name was quickly switched to Aztec Coin after a debate in the pub with friends as it seemed the most memorable and fitting to the new business. The Equipment and limited part of the name were added later after a number of calls from customers asking for rare gold coins rather than fruit machines!!!!!
Initially, Richard worked with a small team of family members from a converted farm building and gradually built the sales business trading mainly in gaming machines, arcade games and pool tables. As the business turnover grew Richard saw an opportunity to acquire a much more modern business premises and relocated the business to Widnes. This proved a shrewd move as Richard expanded retail sales with the new unit looking the part. Further workshop staff were taken on and distribution and sales grew again in turnover and numbers with Richard building an excellent reputation through the Uk and Ireland and attending many trade shows and building the network of customers and suppliers
Strangely enough, there were never any plans to operate machines in pubs and clubs but as our stature and reputation grew we naturally progressed into starting to build a portfolio of our own single site operation mainly to free houses and members clubs. This was in and around 2010 and since then we have grown to be a major supplier of amusement machines in the north-west and north wales areas of the Uk. We still continue to run a successful distribution& sales business as well as our own operations and the team has grown to double figures.
2018 has been a particularly tough year but we continue to 25% growth across our own operations and have a constant demand for machines from our trade sales customers.
